I just returned from a trip to Mexico, and had the opportunity to see a variety of our different USA Pear promotions in action. In the produce section of the supermarket, Mexican shoppers can often spot demonstrators handing out samples, recipe brochures, and nutrition information about USA Pears.
We also have many activities for kids: in schools, children’s museums, and in stores as well for the little ones that tag along shopping with mom and dad. The giant Pear Buddy puzzle below is just one example – did you notice baby Seckel in the bottom right corner? Pears are a sweet substitution for candy and other sugary treats that kids love to snack on!
Our Spanish-speaking USA Pear enthusiasts can visit Club de Peras for video games, kids’ recipes, coloring sheets, and other fun activities that teach kids about nutrition and being active. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, I strongly recommend Capitán Anjou (Captain Anjou) as he battles against junk food in outer space!
For Mexican families, we just launched a new program called “Nutre a tu Familia de Bienestar,” which we call “Healthy Fruits for Healthy Families” in English. Nutritionists visit the supermarkets and provide consultations with shoppers about a healthy diet, body weight, and lifestyle and how pears can play a role (you, too, can learn how in the Facts and Nutrition section of usapears.org, as well as the always-insightful advice and tips from Amy!). Shoppers also receive a goody bag featuring recipe booklets, measuring tape to keep track of inches lost off the waistline, and pear packer for on-the-go snacks. Tools for a great start towards your quest for a healthy lifestyle!
Also for our amigos hispanohablantes (Spanish-speaking friends) – coming soon is a redesigned perasusa.com! Brand-new and improved, you’ll find ¡recetas, información sobre las variedades de Peras USA, actividades para niños y papas, y mucho más! In the meantime, visit usapears.org for all your pear needs: recipes, variety information, activities for kids and parents, and much, much more!
An interesting article about USA pears and Mexico–very informative!
