Pear Moqueca (Seafood Stew)
Moqueca is a traditional Brazilian stew that incorporates seafood, tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers and coconut milk. The addition of pears in this recipes gives this classic dish a sweet spin.
- 1 chopped onion
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 chopped tomatoes
- 1 chopped red pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- white pepper to taste
- 1 lb of fish in slices
- 1 lb clean medium shrimp
- 1 glass of light coconut milk
- chopped parsley or cilantro to taste
- 3 USA pears
- ½ cup of manioc flour
Saute onion in olive oil and add tomatoes and peppers. Season with salt and pepper. Let it cook for 10 minutes and place fish and peeled and halved pears on top.
Cover and leave 10 minutes.
Add shrimp and parsley or cilantro and drizzle with coconut milk. Cook some more.
Remove from heat and beat half of the sauce formed with the pears.
Put in a pan and thicken with cassava flour.
Serve the stew with the pears.
